What is FiNiFox?
The information portal for assistive devices for children.
Choosing the right assistive devices—whether immediately after diagnosis or over time—is and remains a challenge. We know what we’re talking about, since we (Janine and Connie) are both mothers of two girls with severe multiple disabilities. Finja (†2019) was, and Nike has been since birth, dependent on numerous assistive devices due to a genetic mutation called CDKL5.
In our search for the right assistive devices to help our children in their daily lives, we’ve waded through the jungle of options on your behalf and created this review portal for rehabilitation aids. It’s designed to provide an overview of assistive devices, introduce products, and help you choose the “right” assistive devices for your child.
We’ve found that, in addition to a good medical supply store, the experiences of others are especially important when deciding on the right assistive device.
That’s why this site gives you the opportunity to actively share your experiences with others, helping everyone get a better sense of what’s available.
What do you like about your assistive devices, what would you like to see, and what urgently needs improvement? Comment, discuss, and rate. We’re eager to hear your opinions, and this also gives manufacturers the chance to improve their products.
How do you actually do that?
Janine lives in Bremen, Connie in Constance and Iris in Düsseldorf. That's not exactly around the corner.
Connie and Janine got to know each other in 2015 via the website for our daughters' genetic defect, CDKL5. We got on really well from the very first second. We have actually seen each other far too rarely in real life. We met up once to visit a rehab trade fair together in Düsseldorf. It was an incredible effort to get there with our children!
We think so: It cannot and should not be the case that you can only get comprehensive information about the variety of children's rehab products at such barely accessible trade fairs. The idea of FiNiFox was born and we started to build finifuchs.de together virtually.
In the fall of 2022, Iris literally ran into us at a trade fair in Düsseldorf. We matched immediately. As the mother of a son with disabilities, she knows her way around the jungle of assistive technology. Since then, she has been supporting FiNiFox on a project basis as an external strategic consultant in matters relating to positioning, communication and concept development.
In regular virtual meetings, we work on strategic topics, develop ideas further and get new ideas off the ground - and we still have plenty of them. Stay tuned.
