The PowerHip® self-power orthosis was specifically developed for children with spina bifida (MMC). It is custom-fitted and manufactured using 3D printing to transfer strength from the child's strong knees to their weak hips. This orthosis enables active extension of the hips using the child's own leg strength. As a result, many children with spina bifida can move better and are more mobile.

Children with MMC (spina bifida) were previously fitted with heavy pelvic leg orthoses that restricted their mobility.
Parents complained about the effort involved in putting on and taking off these orthoses.
The idea for the lightweight, 3D-printed power orthosis was born during a consultation with Dr. Chakravarthy U Dussa and a Pohlig employee.
Prototypes of the PowerHip® orthosis were tested intensively, with positive feedback from children and parents.
The narrow shape allows sitting in a wheelchair, the material is light, air-permeable and flexible.
The time required to put on and take off the orthosis is significantly reduced.
The PowerHip® orthosis is suitable for training and therapy as it strengthens the muscles.
Suitable for children with spina bifida with sufficient leg strength and minimal hip flexion contracture.
Advantages: Improvement of gait pattern, lightweight and flexible materials, air permeability, wheelchair seating option, segmented design, use for training and therapy.
