Here we’re sharing our latest discoveries, as well as “old favorites” and valuable books on topics such as disability, inclusion, ableism, being different, and related issues. Since we at FiNiFuchs are dedicated to the topic of assistive devices for children, we’re starting with young readers. We’ve put together a selection of children’s books that are not only enjoyable for children but also for us adults when we read them aloud, and that inspire reflection.
For children with visual impairments, books with high-contrast illustrations can be very helpful. These books enable them to distinguish between different objects and colors, thereby improving their visual perception. In addition, books with tactile features—such as raised illustrations or Braille text—can be valuable for children with visual or cognitive impairments. By providing accessible reading materials, we can ensure that all children have the opportunity to develop a love of reading and learning.
