Wheelchair child and sibling: practical transportation solutions
Solutions for transporting a child in a wheelchair and a sibling at the same time
For families with a child in a wheelchair and another baby who is still too small to walk, everyday life can be challenging, especially when it comes to transporting both children. Transporting a baby and an older child in a wheelchair at the same time requires well thought-out solutions that meet both the needs of the child in the wheelchair and the requirements for the baby.
Tips from the community:
Baby carrier and sibling pushchair
Put the baby in the carrier first, a sibling pushchair for longer walks. For hypotonic children, the Goto can also be placed in the sibling pushchair, for example.
Mazelaki
The Mazelaki hammock can be attached to the buggy.
Buggyboard
Combine the wheelchair with a buggyboard (it is best to talk to the wheelchair supplier beforehand to find out what options are available for the model)
Rehab buggy with leg rest
Some rehab buggies are designed so that the younger sibling can sit on the leg rest between the legs of the older brother/sister as soon as they are able to sit. This is the case with the Special Tomato jogger, for example.
Rehab buggy/wheelchair with infant car seat
There are some models from Sorg, for example, but also HOGGI with a carrycot. This means that a separate baby seat is attached to the rehab buggy or wheelchair.
Bicycle trailer with 2 seats
We use a bicycle trailer in which 2 children can sit.
