Tomatis therapy
Tomatis therapy is a form of auditory stimulation that can be used for children and young people with disabilities. The therapy is based on the idea that human hearing plays a crucial role in cognitive development and emotional regulation. Targeted stimulation of the auditory system can therefore achieve improvements in cognitive, emotional and social areas.
Tomatis therapy consists of two main components: auditory stimulation and speech stimulation. During auditory stimulation, the patient listens to special music that has been edited to have specific frequencies and patterns. This music is played through special headphones that are connected to a special device that processes the music. The music is modulated in a certain way to stimulate and activate the brain. Through this stimulation, the brain is able to form new connections and function more effectively.
During speech stimulation, the patient is asked to say certain words and phrases. These words and sentences are recorded and then played back with a delay. As a result, the patient hears their own voice with a slight delay, which makes them more aware of their speech patterns and enables them to correct them.
Tomatis therapy can be used for a variety of disabilities, such as autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, sensory integration disorders and speech disorders. The therapy is customized and can usually last several weeks or months.
Tomatis Therapy is a non-invasive and non-drug form of therapy that can help to improve the cognitive, emotional and social skills of children and young people with disabilities. However, it is important to note that Tomatis Therapy should not be used as the sole form of therapy, but as part of a broader treatment plan.
